Adventureyears.com welcomes your interest in assisting us in building a database of adventure tourism businesses.
Our initial goal is to create a searchable directory of 5000 adventure tourism businesses. More will be added later.
The following basic information is needed.
{See the diagram below}
1. The business title.
2. The business contact information.
3. The business category (Some businesses have multiple categories)
4. Not shown, but information that we will try to gather, is the businesses contact name, email address, and web address (URL).
This information will be used when businesses pay to upgrade their listing.
Entering information is easy. First you must log into the data entry system.
Click on "Members Log-In" at the top of the adventureyears.com web page.

This part might seem confusing since you will enter
your adventureyears.com data entry ID into the field labeled "Email Address". Your data entry ID and password will be assigned to you.

After logging in, you will see the main page. This includes statistics on payment for businesses/attractions
entered, as well as links to various states in the United States. Business and Attraction mean the same thing, so don't get confused.
You will see your name listed at the top. In this example, the data entry person's name is Ernie Love.
See the following numbers for an explaination of items on the page.
1. The number of records (businesses entered) that you have previously been paid for.
2. The number of new records that you've entered and not been paid for.
3. The total number of records you've entered.
4. The number of records you've needed to modify (everyone makes mistakes that need correcting.)
5. The date of your last record entered/changed.
6. The number of records entered in each state.
7. The number of records deleted in each state.
8. The total number of records entered by all data entry contractors.

You will need to know how to enter a record. This is easy. After finding a record to enter,
click on the state in which the business is located. In this example we will click on California.
See the following numbers for an explaination of items on the page.
1. Along the left is a list of places in this state.
2. For each place, the number of records you've entered is listed.
3. For each place, the number of records everyone has entered is listed.
4. Occasionally a place has not yet been added. Click on this link and follow the instructions for adding a new place to this state.
Continue the data entry process by clicking on the place that your business is located. In this example we will click on Acampo.
See the following numbers for an explaination of items on the page.
1. Confirm that you have selected to correct place. Be careful not to add a business to the wrong town.
2. After confirming that the business has not already been added, click on the "add new attraction" link.
3. The name of the business is listed here and if you click on the link you can modify the information. This is used when you make mistakes and want to correct them.
4. If you need to delete a business attraction (Maybe you added it to the wrong place) click on this link. You can restore a deleted business attraction by clicking on this link again.

At this point you should be at the add an Attraction/Business to Acamp, California.
See the following numbers for an explaination of items on the page.
1. Enter the name of the business/attraction. The name should not be in full capital letters.
2. If the address is available, enter it here. If there is a postal AND a business address, enter just the postal address.
3. Enter the Zip code if you can find it.
4. It is good to enter the name of the business operators, but don't spend a lot of time searching for this information. If you can't find it easily just leave the "Adventure Business Operator" information in the box.
5. This is optional, however most businesses will have a contact email. Make sure you don't include extra characters other than the email or you'll get error messages.
6. For your work this is required. This will allow for checking the quality of data, but also to confirm that the information has been gathered from an adventure businesses web page and not another Adventure Directory.
Gathering information directly from competators Adventure Directories is an easier way to get the information we need, however it will cause me to get sued. You can follow the links on other Adventure/Tourism directories to the businesses web pages, but don't take information from other directories. If you do not understand this page please call me. If you break this rule, it will end our business relationship. I will need to confirm this copyright infringement is not happening, so add the URL web address.
7. Choose the category or categories which best describe the type of attraction/business. Click on the HELP link to get a description of the business types. Sometimes you will choose multiple categories.
Getting the categories exactly correct is not so important, however use your best judgement.
8. Enter the phone number. If there is more than one phone number, just choose one.
When you are done, click the "Add Attraction" button. If you get an error message, everything is not lost. If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser, you should be able to click the back button once and refresh the page.
The data should reappear. Until you get this figured out it will be frustrating since you will have to re-enter all the data. Just play with the back and refresh buttons until you find out how to recover the information.
NOTE: The section in red should be ignored. This is detailed information that the business owner can enter.
